Abstract This Decree approves the Statute of the Institute of Biodiversity and Protected Areas (IBAP). The Statute, consisting of 7 Chapters, establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned institution, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. It will be entitled to: propose, coordinate and implement the policy and any other activity related to biodiversity and protected areas on the National territory; to promote and preserve the local ecosystems, the biodiversity and the protected areas and promote the socio-economic and sustainable use of their natural resources within the National territory, including water resources in continental and marine areas.
