Abstract This Decree-Law, consisting of 14 articles, approves the Regulation on the Capture and Marketing of Sea Turtles and their products. The Regulation deals with the Protection and Conservation of the following species of Sea Turtles in the territorial waters of São Tomé and Príncipe: Chelonia Mydas (Green sea turtle), Caretta Caretta (Loggerhead sea turtle), Dermochelys Coriacea (Leatherback), Eretmochelys Imbricata (Hawksbill sea turtle) and Lepidochelys Olivacea (Olive ridley sea turtle). The following levels of vulnerability of sea turtle species are considered: a) Vulnerable: Lepidochelys Olivacea; b) Threatened with extinction: Chelonia Mydas and Caretta Caretta; c) Critically endangered: Dermochelys Coriacea; Eretmochelys Imbricata. All exports of live or dead sea turtles and derived products to the outside of the country shall be prohibited, except for scientific research purposes with the prior authorization of the competent body.
