Abstract This Decree-Law approves the Regulation on the Provision of Public and Private Veterinary Services. The Regulation, consisting of 82 articles divided into nine Chapters and one Annex, establishes the regime for the provision of services in the exercise of public and private veterinary activities, guaranteeing respect for animal welfare standards, the hygienic-sanitary protection of herds, safeguarding animal health, the safety of people and goods, the quality of the environment within a framework of sustainability and social responsibility of livestock and veterinary producers. All public veterinary activities must be carried out by competent technicians and all private veterinary activities to the issuance of written authorization by the supervising Ministry with the prior opinion from the Livestock Directorate. In addition, it regulates the provision of Public Livestock Services and Private Livestock Engineers, as well as animals in general, veterinary establishments, slaughterhouses, the incubation of eggs or incubators, livestock research and extension, the Artificial Insemination Center (CIA), livestock insurance, veterinary inspection at the borders, the Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Diagnosis and incentives.
