Abstract This Decree-Law, consisting of 12 articles, establishes the Statute of Family Farming. The Statute aims to pursue the following objectives: a) Recognize and distinguish the specificity of Family Farming in its various dimensions: economic, territorial, social and environmental; b) Promote appropriate public policies; c) Promote and enhance local production and improve their marketing networks; d) Promote sustainable agriculture by encouraging the improvement of production systems and methods; e) Contribute to fight the desertification of the inland territories; f) Give Family Farming a strategic value to be taken into account, in particular in the priorities of national and European agricultural policies; g) Promote greater equity in the granting of incentives and production conditions to family agricultural holdings.
