This Decree-Law enters into force on 14 August 2001.
Abstract

This Decree-Law, consisting of 44 articles divided into three Chapters, creates the São Tomé and Príncipe Oil and Gas Society (PETROGÁS), a State-owned company aimed to operate under the Ministry responsible for the hydrocarbon area, and approves the respective Statute. The PETROGÁS in particular aims to perform the following activities: a) Carry out petroleum exploration, research, development, production, refining and transformation of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons and their derivatives, including petrochemical activities; b) Take, load, transport, store and market the related production, under the terms and conditions of the contracts; c) Participate in the capital of companies with a similar or related object, or even in any associations, consortia or groupings of companies with a view to achieving their object; d) Carry out and impose consumer or durable goods necessary for the achievement of its object. PETROGÁS may also engage directly or indirectly in complementary or accessory activities to its corporate purpose or any other industrial or commercial activities, by decision of its board of directors and authorization of the supervisory body.
