Abstract This Decree-Law establishes fishing resources exploitation and fishing rights within the maritime waters under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. This Decree-Law consists of 6 parts establishing the requirements to be met in order to perform the aforementioned activity. This Decree-Law is dicided as follows: Fisheries resources exploitation and fishing rights, authorization requirements to be met in order to authorize national and foreign fishing to perform their activity (including artisanal fishing), fishing gear and vessel, etc. (Part 1); Management of the fisheries sector (including a plan for fisheries management, registration of fishing vessel, Fund for fishing development and agreement of cooperation in the fisheries sector (2); Licensing (including all the aspects relevant to the licence, such as: fee, duration, different types of licence), fishing activity with scientific purposes, etc. (3); Restrictions regulating the aforementioned activity (including prohibited gear, fishing vessel marking, prohibition of toxic waste use, etc.) (4); Establishment of mariculture centres (5); Quality control on fisheries products exports (specifying fish product quality standards in order to be placed on the market) (5); Control and entitled institution to carry out inspection and apply sanctions for illegal activity, legal procedures and fines to be paid by offenders (6).
