Abstract This Decree-Law creates the Social Inclusion Income. This financial resource is a temporary cash benefit, granted according to the poverty and/or social and economic vulnerability of the household in the social protection system at the level of the safety net. This income aims to ensure that households have sufficient resources to contribute meeting their minimum needs and favouring a progressive social and labour inclusion. Beneficiaries of social inclusion income are verified vulnerable households. For the purposes of receiving the benefit, the household representative, according to the data from the social register, can appoint him/herself or another member, preferably a female member of the household, aged sixteen or over. The benefit provided for in this Decree-Law is cumulative with other benefits provided at the level of the safety net or by other social security schemes.
