Abstract This Decree-Law establishes the Regime for Intensive Energy Consumers (RCIE), instituted with the objective of promoting energy efficiency and local energy production in the facilities of final consumers who present significant energy consumption in the final consumption structure. It applies to all energy intensive consumers, legal persons, public and private, whose final energy consumption in the immediately preceding calendar year has been equal to or greater than equivalent tons of oil fixed by Decree of the Government member responsible for the Energy area. In the case of transport, road and maritime companies, and companies with their own energy-intensive fleets, the application of this regime must be adapted under the terms to be established in specific legislation for this purpose. The regime may be applicable to companies that have an energy consumption below specified limits.
