Abstract This Decree-Law, consisting of 5 Chapters, creates the Public Institution of Petroleum and Geology (IPG). The Decree-Law establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of IPG. This institution aims at recording, producing, managing, storing and disseminating information on the geology sector, including information on the potentiality of oil resources, gas and mineral exploitation, in order to carry out investigations on prospection, research and exploitation of National mineral resources. It also applies for the coordination and promotion of any activity aiming at the production of geological information, including maritime areas, and the establishment of a National Register related to these geological natural resources of Timor-Leste.
