Abstract This Law regulates the Brazilian Criminal Code. In particular, Chapter III deals with crimes against Public Health, as follows: Art. 267 - Causing an epidemic through the propagation of pathogenic germs: Penalty - if the fact results in death, the penalty is doubled up to four years; Art. 268 - Infringing a determination of the public authority, aimed at preventing the introduction or spread of a contagious disease: Penalty - detention, from one month to one year; Art. 270 - Poisoning drinking water, for common or private use, or food or medicinal substance intended for consumption: Penalty - imprisonment, from ten to fifteen years; Art. 271 - Polluting drinking water, for common or private use, making it unfit for consumption or harmful to health: Penalty - imprisonment, from two to five years.
