Abstract This Decree-Law creates the Port Institution of the South - IPS ('Instituto Portuário do Sul') under the Ministry of Land Planning and extinguishes the Autonomous Port Associations of Algarvian Sotavento and Barlavento ('Junta Autónoma dos Portos do Sotavento do Algarve' and 'Junta Autónoma dos Portos do Barlavento do Algarve'). It consists of 13 articles and 1 annex establishing composition, competencies and duties of this institution settled in 'Faro'. IPS manages those ports under its jurisdictional area, in order to perform harbour economic exploitaion, conservation and development (including for land facilities).
