Abstract This Decree-Law, consisting of 28 articles divided into six Chapters and three Annexes, establishes the National Metrology System. It applies to public and private entities that make use of Legal Measuring Units, standards and metrological control activities, as well as to systems, methods and measurement instruments used in commercial transactions, provision of services and those used in the protection of health, safety and the environment. The metrology is regulated by: a) The entity that oversees the metrology area; b) Public and private entities that are qualified and accredited to perform metrology activities. The measuring instruments that satisfy the metrological control established in this Decree-Law are identified by a mark and/or verification certificate whose characteristics are defined in a specific regulation.
