Abstract

This Decree-Law amends the Regulation of harbour reception facilities for ship-generated waste and cargo residues originating from vessels using national harbours. Amendments deal with: Port reception facilities for waste capable of receiving ship-generated waste and cargo residues from ships normally using such port, taking into account the operational needs of port users. Size and geographic location, type of vessels calling the port, as well as the exemptions provided for in article 10. In the case of foreign ships, the IPTM inspectors act under the provisions of the Foreign Ships Inspection Regulation, approved by Decree-Law No 195/98. Vessels sailing through a national port should contribute significantly to the costs of the port reception facilities related to the waste generated on board, including the cost for treatment and disposal of such waste.
