Abstract This Decree-Law, consisting of 33 articles divided into eight Chapters, establishes the Legal Regime of Protection in Maternity, Paternity and Adoption under the Contributory Social Security Regime. It defines and regulates social protection in situations of pregnancy, maternity, paternity and adoption, concretized in the attribution of cash benefits, and covering the situations concerning health and safety at work of pregnant beneficiaries, including lactating mothers. In addition, it regulates situations of incapacity or unavailability for the exercise of professional activity due to maternity, paternity and adoption, regulating the scope, characterization of subsidies and registration of equivalence remuneration, the conditions for granting subsidies, the start and duration of subsidies, the cumulation and coordination of benefits, processing and administration.
