This Decree-Law enters into force on the day after its publication.
Abstract

This Decree-Law, consisting of 18 articles and four Annexes, establishes quality standards to be satisfied by rice destined to human consumption. The aim of this Decree-Law is to define the characteristics to be met by the above mentioned rice intended for the final consumer, to determine their commercial types and classification and to lay down the technical standards for its marketing, packaging and labelling. It is incumbent upon the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) to supervise the compliance with these quality standards, without prejudice to the powers attributed to other entities. Offences and penalties are specifies for marketing or holding for the marketing in the domestic market of rice or broken rice which does not comply with the specified characteristics, classification, packaging, denomination and labelling.
