Abstract This Decree-Law implements the Decree-Law No. 246/2002 which amendeds the Decree-Law No. 74/96 abolishing the Inspectorate-General for Fisheries (IGP) and restructures the Directorate General for Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGPA). This Decree-Law establishes the new competence of the DGPA to coordinate, plan and implement the control of sea fishery, aquaculture and related activities within the framework policy of resources management and conservation. At this end, the Decree, composed of 36 articles and divided in 5 sections, redefines the nature and structure of DGPA, its competences, staff of workmen and financial management. It repeals the Regulation Decree No. 12/97 approving the Fishing and Aquaculture General Direction’s organic law.
