Abstract This Decree-Law approves the the Statute of the General Fisheries Inspection Staff (IGP). This Statute, consisting of 57 articles divided into six Chapters and four Annexes, establishes the principles, rules and criteria for the organization, structuring and development of careers and professional positions of inspectors of the General Fisheries Inspection. This Statute applies to all Fisheries Inspectors, namely fisheries inspectors and health inspectors, regardless of their functions in the areas of inspection of the legality of fishing activities or sanitary inspection of fishery products. In addition, the Statute aims at promoting the professional development of IGP staff, and ensuring a rational and optimized management of human resources and guarantee the full use of available staff.
