Abstract This Decree, consisting of 20 articles divided into six Chapters and four Annexes, approves the Regulation on animal welfare protection during slaughtering. The purpose of this Regulation is to develop section 9 of the Protocol on veterinary matters supplementary to the Agreement in the form of an exchange of letters between the Principality of Andorra and the European Economic Community, specifically the transposition of Regulation (EC) No. 1099/2009, which contains specific regulations on this topic. This Regulation establishes rules on the slaughtering of animals bred for production of food, wool, leather or other products, as well as the slaughtering of animals for the purpose of sanitary reasons. This Regulation does not apply if the animals are slaughtered: i) for scientific experiments conducted under the supervision of a competent authority; ii) for hunting or recreational fishing activities; iii) in case of having to practice a slaughter for sanitary reasons; iv) slaughtering at home for self-consumption; c) sacrifice of animals during the Islamic celebration for self-consumption.
