Abstract

This Decision bans the import and export of, and trade in, species of the following wild fauna species in the appendices to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) 1. White (square-lipped) rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) and their products. 2. Black (hook-lipped) rhinocerous (Diceros bicornis) and their products. 3. African elephants (Loxodonta Africana) and their products. The species specified may be imported only when: 1. They are used for foreign affairs, scientific research, biodiversity conservation facilities, display at zoos; exhibitions and circus performances not for commercial purposes; law enforcement; and exchange among CITES management authorities of member countries. 2. They are not used for commercial purposes and are eligible for import under the cooperation agreements between the CITES management authority of Vietnam and CITES management authorities of countries of export. 3. They had been granted CITES import permits before the effective date of this Decision.
