Subject Water Keyword Basic legislation Waterworks Institution Geographical area Asia and the Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, Indian Ocean, Oceania, South Pacific Abstract The Act, consisting of 32 sections, makes provision for the establishment of the Dams Safety Committee, whose functions shall be: (a) to maintain a surveillance of prescribed dams; (b) to examine and investigate the location, construction, operation and maintenance of prescribed dams; (c) to obtain information and formulate measures to ensure the safety of dams; (d) to make reports or recommendations to the Minister or any other person in relation to the safety of dams; (e) to take extraordinary measures in state of emergency, where a prescribed dam has collapsed of failed, in whole or in part. General provisions, contained in Part 4, regard the conditions under which the Committee may delegate by resolution its powers to certain authorities and officers, the authentication of documents, offences and the proceedings for offences.
