In particular, its purpose is to increase the safety of the dams to which the Act applies and thereby protect persons and property against the risks associated with the presence of dams. For the purposes of this Act, “dam” means any works intended to divert or impound the water of a watercourse or of a lake or reservoir. In addition, a person holding or operating a dam shall be considered to be a dam owner. The Act consists of 7 chapters as follows: General provisions (I); Provisions applicable to high-capacity dams (II); Provisions applicable to low-capacity dams (III); Administrative measures (IV); Regulations (V); Penal provisions (VI); Miscellaneous provisions (VII).
