Abstract

Scope of these Regulations is to harmonize the existing Cypriot legislation with Council Directive 88/556/EEC laying down the animal health conditions governing intra-Community trade in and importation from third countries of fresh and frozen embryos of domestic animals of the bovine species, as amended by Council Directive 94/113/EEC. The Regulations shall not apply to embryos resulting from in vitro fertilization nor to embryos subjected to sexing, splitting (twinning), cloning or any manipulation which interferes with the integrity of the 'zona pellucida'. The text sets forth conditions for the approval of genetic material collection centres and regulates matters concerning the issuing of licenses for the operation of such centres; it regulates functions of embryo collection teams; it makes provisions for intra-Community trade and also for imports from third countries; it sets forth the conditions for the collection, procession and storage of embryos; conditions applying to the admission of animals to approved embryos collection centres (animal health certificate); rules on safeguard and control measures. All formats for licenses and animal health certificates is determined in the Annexes.
