Abstract

These Regulations, made by the Minister under sections 11 and 18 of the Fishermen Welfare Fund Act, requires a Contributory Scheme for Bank Fishermen to be set up. The Scheme shall be managed by the Board of the Fishermen Welfare Fund. The objects of the Scheme shall be to provide financial assistance during the months of June, July and August of each year to bank fishermen participating in the Scheme. The Fund shall set up a special fund - (a) into which shall be paid - (i) the contributions of every bank fisherman participating in the Scheme; (ii) the contribution made by the Fund to the Scheme; (b) out of which payments required to be made by the Fund to bank fishermen shall be effected. Any bank fisherman who has been on at least two fishing campaigns on the banks during the period 1 September in a year to 31 May of the following year may participate in the Scheme by making a specified contribution. The contributions to be effected by the bank fishermen and the Fund shall be as specified in the First Schedule.
