Specific regulations concern the protection of installations in designated areas; penalties to be applied in case discharges into the sea from a pipeline, or as a result of any operations for the exploration of the seabed and subsoil or the exploitation of their natural resources in a designated area; the construction, operation and use of artificial islands, installations, structures and devices on the continental shelf. Further provisions concern marine scientific reserach: it is stipulated that the right to regulate, authorize and conduct marine scientific research on the continental shelf is vested in the Government.
