The Amendment of the definition of the Continental shelf is consequential to the declaration of the Exclusive Economic Zone by the Exclusive Economic Zone Order 2013 (S.I. No. 3161 of 2013). The EEZ shall be the same as those which form part of the exclusive economic zone, together with any areas of continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the United Kingdom’s baselines within which the United Kingdom may exercise such rights. The continental shelf is delimited by, among other things, with Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and Norway. In respect of certain regulations and licences relating to petroleum, the Continental Shelf (Designation of Areas) Orders 1964 to 1982 shall continue to have effect as they had effect immediately before the coming into force of the Territorial Sea Act 1987.
