Abstract

"Continental Shelf" is defined as "the sea-bed and its subsoil of the submarine areas adjacent to the coast of Kenya, but outside the territorial waters, to a depth of two hundred metres or, beyond that limit, to where the depth of the superjacent waters admits the exploration and exploitation of the natural resources of the said areas". All rights with respect to the Continental Shelf are vested in the Government of Kenya (sect. 3). The remaining sections provide for the application of criminal and civil law of Kenya within the area of the Continental Shelf and certification by or on behalf of the Minister which shall constitute prima facie evidence in legal proceedings as to whether an act or omission occurred within or outside the area of the Continental Shelf.
