Subject Food & nutrition Keyword Food quality control/food safety Fraud Packaging/labelling Offences/penalties Geographical area Micronesia, Oceania, South Pacific Abstract This Act provides for the establishment of the Consumer Protection Board and defines unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices in the conduct of any trade of commerce and declares them unlawful. Unlawful acts, among other things, include: (a) falsely representing goods or services that are of a particular standard, quality, or grade; (b) using deceptive representations or designations of geographic origin in connection with goods or services; and (c) causing likelihood of mistake, misunderstanding or confusion as to the safety or danger in the use or consumption of goods, products or consumables. The Act provides also for civil suit and private and class actions against unlawful acts, authorizes the Attorney-General to carry out investigations and grants other law enforcement powers to the Attorney-General.
