Abstract This Act, comprising 36 Articles, aims to establish a legal framework for the protection of the interests and welfare of consumers in their dealings with producers and suppliers. Its primary provisions encompass (i) ensuring consumers’ right to fair and responsible marketing; (ii) protecting against unfair or unjust transactions; (iii) prohibiting false, misleading, or deceptive misrepresentations; (iv) guaranteeing consumers’ right to safe, good quality goods; (v) ensuring warranty of quality; (vi) protecting consumers’ right to demand quality service; (vii) establishing the Consumer Protection Council whose primary functions are to (a) coordinate and network consumer activities; (b) promote consumer education; (c) advise consumers on their rights; (d) establish conflict resolution mechanisms and investigate complaints; (e) propose and review consumer-related policies and legislation, and advise on national consumer protection policy; (f) report on market practices; (viii) providing mechanisms for enforcement of consumer rights; (ix) supporting consumer protection groups; (x) setting regulations and procedures for handling complaints.
