According to the Convention, each Contracting Party is urged to ensure that its krill fishing vessels carry at least one scientific observer appointed under the CCAMLR Scheme of International Scientific Observation or by the Contracting Party, along with an additional observer if possible, throughout all fishing activities and seasons. Furthermore, a systematic scientific observer coverage scheme, is mandated for all krill fishing vessels in all fishing seasons, with a target coverage rate increasing from 50% to 100% over subsequent fishing seasons. This scheme also includes provisions for adequate sampling and data collection to meet the requirements outlined in the Observer Krill Trawl logbook and Scientific Observer’s Manual – Krill Fisheries.
