Country/Territory Document type Regulation Date 2016 Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Fisheries Keyword Marine fisheries Fishery management and conservation Fishing vessel Monitoring Data collection/reporting Landing Transshipment Enforcement/compliance Offences/penalties International relations/cooperation Foreign fishing Abstract This Conservation and Management Measure of the Meeting of the Parties to the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement, recalling the FAO IPOA-IUU, defines fishing by vessels without nationality and encourages Contracting Parties, cooperating non-Contracting Parties (CNCPs) and Participating Fishing Entities (PFEs) to take effective action in accordance with international law against vessles without a nationality fishing in the Agreement Area. Such action includes, where appropriate, enforcement action against vessels without nationality that are engaging, or have engaged, in fishing activities in the Area. Contracting Parties, CNCPs and PFEs shall also prohibit the landing and transhipment of fish and fish products, and access to port services. Contracting Parties, CNCPs and PFEs are encouraged to adopt necessary measures, including, where relevant, domestic legislation, to allow them to take the effective action to prevent and deter vessels without nationality from engaging in fishing or fishing related activities in the Agreement Area.
