Abstract

This Regulation, comprising 35 articles, in its first part, regulates the licensing system and the management of Fish Culture Farms (cage culture) sited in-shore, off-shore, rivers, and bays. The license is required to practice the Brunei Good Aquaculture Practices for Fish Farming (BGAqP) in the operation of the fish culture farm. Other provisions regard (i) fish feed, which shall be from authorized suppliers and not be sourced from swine (art.7); (ii) communication to the Department of Fisheries in case of the presence of fish diseases listed by the World Animal Health Organization (OIE) and/or unusually high fish mortality; (iii) the process of disposing of dead or infected fish; (iv) ban on the presence of pets on the sites; (v) measures to reduce the negative impact on the environment and water conditions, as well as to reduce the negative impact on fish in the event of any environmental pollution; (vi) allocation of a waste storage area. The second part deals with the conditions in which the fish farm must be maintained, in particular (i) the need for prior written approval to undertake any construction, renovation, or addition of new structures at the allocated site; (ii) cleanness of the site and its surroundings; (iii) relocation or alteration of the fish culture farm if it causes danger to navigation; (iv) lighting at night. It is also possible to operate a work boat or support vessel for activities related to aquaculture only such as transporting fish cage workers, fish feed, and fish cage equipment. General conditions regard (i) production data of fish culture farm; (ii) record of the daily activities; (iii) inspections of the fish farm; (iv) license revocation; (v) removal or demolition of any structure, pole, anchor, float and ancillary equipment used for fish culture at the end of the activities.
