Abstract This Complementary Law regulates the creation, implantation and management of urban parks in the Federal District. In particular, it establishes that those areas selected for the creation and implementation of urban parks must have infrastructures for the development of recreational, cultural, sports, educational and artistic activities. Urban park is a category of open space for public use, common use of the people, which performs the following functions in urban space: I - recreational and socialization in the offer for the population of spaces for coexistence, leisure, sport, rest, walks and cultural manifestations; II - landscaping in the balance of the composition between built and free urban spaces, constitution of the landscape and local identity; III - environmental in the provision of ecosystem services. The urban park complements the set of urban green areas, defined under the terms of Federal Law No. 12.651 of 25 May 2012. The objectives of urban parks are: I - guarantee spaces for sports, recreation and leisure activities in harmonious contact with nature, close to places of residence; II - to encourage the development of cultural, educational, socialization and coexistence events and activities in communities; III - promote soil permeability; IV - promote the improvement of air quality, local microclimate and air humidity; V - promote afforestation and the proper treatment of vegetation as an integrating element in the composition of the urban landscape; VI - conserve natural attributes of the urban landscape.
