Abstract This Law establishes within the State Department of Agriculture, the State Animal Health Fund (FUNDESA) in the State of Santa Catarina, whose resources will be used in actions relating to compensation for the sanitary slaughter and sanitary sacrifice of animals suspected of or affected by foot-and-mouth disease and other infectious diseases included in health control programmes of the State. In addition, they will be used to supplement actions related to animal health surveillance, health education and compensation for production animals, dead as a result of environmental catastrophes in State municipalities declared in a state of public calamity or emergency situation, due to excessive rainfall and its consequences.
