The Act provides for measures relating to: composition, quality, properties of goods; the method of manufacturing, packaging or storage; hygiene requirements during manufacturing; nutritional values of goods; import and export of goods; the use of additives or processing aids in goods; the use of water in any food business for the manufacture, treatment, preservation or marketing of products or substances intended for human consumption; the maximum permissible amounts of chemical, microbiological or biological contaminants; the presence of important nutrients in food or drink that form an essential part of the usual diet; conservation requirements. The Act defines the Advisory Committee on Commodities; specifies prohibitions, including: preparation or trading of food and drink that could endanger human health or safety; preparation of food and drink without specific permits; the use of misleading, incorrect, incomplete labelling.
