Abstract

This Recommendation concerns the radiological quality of drinking water supplies regarding radon and long-lived radon decay products. For the purpose of the Recommendation, drinking water shall mean: (a) all water, either in its original state or after treatment, which is intended for drinking, cooking, food preparation or other domestic purposes, regardless of its origin and whether it is supplied from a distribution network, from a tanker or in bottles or containers; (b) all water used in any food-production undertaking for the manufacture, processing, preservation or marketing of products or substances intended for human consumption. Since special rules have been enacted for natural mineral waters and waters which are medical products, the scope of the Recommendation shall not include those types of water.
