Abstract

These Regulations implement European Parliament and EC Council Directive 94/36/EC on colours for use in foodstuffs, to be read with EC Council Directive 89/107/EC concerning food additives and Commission Directive 95/45/EC laying down specific criteria of purity concerning colours for use in foodstuffs. The principal provisions of these Regulations: (1) prohibited the use of colours other than permitted colours; (2) prohibit use of permitted colours otherwise than in accordance with the Regulations; (3) provide for the use of colours for health marking on meat and meat products and colours on eggshells; (4) prohibit the sale of colours other than permitted colours or food containing any added colour other than a permitted colour.
