Abstract

The present Regulations are made under section 19 of the Northwest Territories Land Act. In particular, the Regulations lay down provisions relating to the exploration of coal in the Territories. Section 7 establishes that a person who wishes to obtain a lease or a permit of a location under these Regulations shall stake the location as nearly as possible in the form of a rectangle of which the length must not exceed four times the width. Section 5 lists lands that are not available for staking, such as land reserved for an Indian Reserve, a national park or game sanctuary or for a military or other public purpose. The text – consisting of 47 sections - deals with the following aspects: application, administration, general provisions, staking location, application for lease, application for permit, Indians and Inuit, exploration licence. Six Forms are enclosed.
