Abstract This Act sets goals to compensate different economic power and promote economic growth in the lignite mining areas. For this purpose, the federal government grants the states of Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia financial aid for particularly important investments by the federal states and their municipalities and associations of municipalities to manage structural change and secure employment as part of the phase-out of lignite mining and the generation of electricity from lignite. The funding is maintained with the purpose of sustainable development in a comprehensive economic, ecological and social understanding. This Act consists of 5 Chapters, 27 Articles and 5 Annexes. Chapters are as follow: Financial aid to compensate for different economic power and to promote economic growth in the lignite mining areas (1); Structural aid for structurally weak locations of hard coal power plants and the former lignite mining area Helmstedt (2); Further federal measures (3); Additional investments in the federal trunk roads and federal railways (4); and Common Rules and Principles (5).
