Abstract

This Act, consisting of 26 sections divided into five Parts and consolidated by four Schedules, makes provision for the establishment, registration, operation and management of cooperatives. The Act provides for: application of Co-operatives National Law and Co-operatives National Regulations; Some Matters Referred to in Co-operatives National Law; Regulations; legal capacity and powers of cooperatives; members of cooperatives and their rights and liabilities; cooperatives’ rules; operations of cooperatives; management and administration of cooperatives; cooperatives’ funds and property; restrictions on the acquisition of interests in cooperatives; the unification or division of cooperatives; foreign cooperatives; supervision and protection of cooperatives; offences and penalties; etc.
