Abstract

This Ordinance provides with respect to the establishment, registration, operation, liquidation of co-operative societies in St. Helena and public control on such societies. The Ordinance shall apply to societies formed for the purpose of encouraging amongst their members the building of houses, the development of agriculture, of horticulture, of fisheries and of trade, and for such other purposes as shall be approved by the Governor in Council and notified in the Gazette. Societies shall be registered with the Registrar of Co-operative Societies appointed by the Governor-General under this Act. A society shall have a privileged claim in priority to all other creditors, to the extent of its claim against a debtor member upon crops, agricultural equipment and livestock as specified.
