It governs all cooperatives incorporated in the Province of Saskatchewan, with the exception of credit unions and caisses populaires, which are regulated under a different piece of legislation, the Credit Unions and Caisses Populaires Act. In particular, the Act makes provisions for the registration and organization of cooperative societies, defines their powers, privileges and duties and provides for their internal organization, management and finances, and provides for other matters relating to the functioning of cooperative societies and cooperative development. The Act is administered by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Finance. The text consists of 187 sections.
