Abstract

The Act consists of 4 Parts divided into 26 sections. Part 2 provides for the establishment of the Chicken Meat Industry Committee and regulates its composition, operation, functions and powers. The Committee is constituted by an equal number of representatives of growers and processors, plus an independent person who is to be the chairperson. Functions of the Committee include referring disputes between growers and processors to mediation; to make recommendations to growers and processors about minimum conditions of agreements and other issues affecting the chicken meat industry; and to represent growers and processors on issues affecting the industry (sect. 13). Part 3 provides for agreements for the solution of disputes within the chicken meat industry by mediation or arbitration. Agreements have to be registered as specified in Part 3A.
