Abstract The Glarus cantonal forest plan is a guide for future forest development. The cantonal forest plan assesses the previous forest development since the last planning period and explains the need for action in the future planning period. The legal bases stipulated are the federal forestry law, the ordinance on forestry planning, the Glarus cantonal forestry law, and the federal forest ordinance. Special attention is given to the protection against natural hazards, biodiversity and preservation of the landscape, recreation and protection of groundwater and drinking water as well as protective forests and forest reserves. The forest plan includes a text section and a map, which outlines forest functions. Periodical revision of the agreements on forest management with the larger forest owners as well as contracts and projects is described. Full text German Website www.gl.ch
