Abstract

The objectives of this Agreement are: a) to foster cooperation between Canada and Saskatchewan concerning the environmental assessment of projects; b) to achieve greater efficiency and the most effective use of public and private resources where environmental assessment processes involving both Parties are required by law; and c) to describe the roles and responsibilities for the Parties in implementing this Agreement. The text – consisting of 51 sections – deals, inter alia, with the following matters: designated office, preliminary consultations, notification and determination of parties participating in an environmental assessment, cooperative environmental assessments, accommodating interest, relationship of this Agreement to aboriginal agreements, accommodating transboundary concerns, revision and duration of the present Agreement.
