The functions of the Council are - (a) to advise the Minister on measures to be taken to prevent and control bushfires in the Territory; and (b) to exercise and discharge such powers, duties and functions as are conferred or imposed on it by or under this or any other Act. The Minister may, by notice in the Gazette, appoint a person to be Chief Fire Control Officer (sect. 9A). Provision is also made for Fire Control Officers, Fire Wardens, and Regional Committees. The Minister may, by notice in the Gazette declare any land to be a fire control region with the name specified in the notice. Provisions of Part III concern prevention and control of bushfires. Fire Protection Zones, Fire Danger Areas, and Fire Ban Areas may be declared. Part V makes provision for fire fighting.
