Abstract

The Rules provide, under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (59 of 1960), for experiments conducted on animals for research in the field of physiology, pathology and treatment for animal and human diseases, and also for the use of animal materials in the production of reagents, drugs, antigens, antibodies and transgenic products. Importation of animals for research is forbidden, with the exception of genetically manipulated mice and rats that are available in the Country.
