Abstract

The scope of these Regulations is the establishment of a regulatory framework for borehole drilling and excavation works carried out partly or totally within the saturated zone. The latter is defined as the part of an aquifer in which all interconnected openings within the geological formation are completely filled with water. As a general rule, regulation 4 stipulates that the drilling of a borehole or any form of excavation works carried out partly or totally within the saturated zone is prohibited, unless a permit to this effect is issued by the Malta Resources Authority. Further provisions concern the application to obtain this permit.
