Abstract

These Regulations make provision with respect to control of the import, development, export, research, transit, contained use, release or placing on the market of any genetically modified organism to be used in food or feed or for processing. Import of a GMO shall be authorized in accordance with these Regulations by the National Biosafety Authority if it does not pose any significant risks to human or animal health, biological diversity, non-genetically modified crops or the environment. The Authority shall establish and maintain a Register for purposes of these Regulations. A producer of a genetically modified organism for food or feed shall develop a unique identifier for each genetically modified organism. An application for the placing on the market of food and feed and products derived from genetically GMO's shall be made to the Authority and shall include the unique identifier for each GMO's. An operator shall, when placing a product produced from GMO's on the market, transmit specified information in writing to the operator receiving the GMO.
