Abstract The Act makes provision for the control of genetic modification of organisms and related activities for so as to prevent danger and damage to public health and the environment. The Act shall apply to: (a) the genetic modification of organisms; (b) the importation, development, production, testing, release, use and application of genetically modified organisms; and (c) the use of gene therapy in animals, including human beings. It shall be administered by the Minister responsible for environmental affairs. The Act sets out the functions of the Minister. The Act also established a Biosafety Fund for the safe management of biotechnological activities.
