Abstract The present Ordinance lays down provisions relating to safety and protection of health in activities involving biological agents. The Ordinance applies also to activities subject to legislation on genetic technology provided that there are no equivalent or stricter rules to protect workers. The text consists of 22 Articles divided into 6 Parts as follows: Sphere of application, definition of terms and classification of risk groups (1); Risk assessment, assignment of protection level, documentation and record keeping (2); Basic duties and safeguard measures (3); Permission and disclosure requirements (4); Enforcement provisions and Committee for Biological Agents (5); Administrative offences, criminal offences and transitional provisions (6).
